TCL unveils 17-inch tablet that unfolds like a scroll
12.01.2021 [02:47],
Konstantin Khodakovsky

TCL has already demonstrated various sliding devices, but it is now clear that one of them could be particularly ambitious. The company unveils a concept tablet based on a 17-inch OLED printed display inspired by the ancient scrolls.

To unfold the screen, the user needs to open the device like a scroll. While the images shown do not clearly represent what we can get in the final product, TCL suggests using such solutions for displaying detailed maps on hikes and other situations where large laptop-sized screens are useful, which require a minimum of storage space.

The panel itself offers “100% color gamut” and can be used in other devices such as small TVs, foldable devices and commercial displays.

It’s another matter when we see such a tablet in reality. While TCL has made it clear that these videos are more a question of “when” rather than “if”, the company did not even give an approximate time frame or other details. Rather, this concept can be used to judge in which direction TCL ideas are developing, and not to think of it as a product, even if such a tablet does indeed enter the market in the future.
