American astrophysicists from the University of Arizona managed to find a quasar, which was named J0313-1806 and is currently the most distant and heaviest object of this type. It is in the same state it was in when the universe was 670 million years old. The TASS news agency writes about this with reference to research data of American scientists, the results of which will be published in the Astrophysical Journal Letters.

In astronomy, quasars are usually called very bright sources of radio emission. Scientists believe they represent active galactic nuclei in the early stages of development. A supermassive black hole is located in the center of such a galaxy, which actively absorbs matter, which is why a brightly glowing disk is formed around it, consisting of rotating matter. According to astronomers, the most ancient black holes appeared inside regions of the Universe, the density of matter in which was high enough for the formation of so-called intermediate-mass black holes inside galaxies, objects that are tens of thousands of times heavier than the Sun.

American scientists, led by astrophysicist Feige Wang, managed to find the oldest example of such a galaxy at the moment. It was found in the constellation Eridani, and at its center is a supermassive black hole, the mass of which is about 300 times the mass of the black hole located in the center of our Milky Way. According to astronomers, a supermassive black hole in the center of this galaxy absorbs a volume of matter a year comparable to 25 solar masses. It should be noted that J0313-1806 is about twice as large and 20 million years older than the quasar ULAS J1342 + 0928, which is located in the constellation Bootes and was previously considered the oldest such object.

Scientists hope that further observation of the quasar J0313-1806 will help to understand how the ejections of the supermassive black hole in the center affect its evolution and the process of ionization of the Universe in the first epochs of its life after the Big Bang. Understanding this will help clarify the evolutionary history of the Milky Way and its luminaries.
