Microsoft to launch Xbox games on smart TVs in 2021
26.eleven.2021 [09:14],
Evgeny Mirkin

Microsoft still hasn’t deployed a full xCloud streaming service on mobile devices, but it has become known that TVs are the next logical step. In an interview with The Verge, Xbox CEO Phil Spencer revealed that the Xbox app is likely to appear on smart TVs next year.

“I think you’ll see it in the next 12 months,” Spencer said when asked about turning xCloud into a TV app. “I don’t think there’s anything stopping us from doing this.”.

Last month, Spencer, in an interview with Stratechery, hinted at a desire to release special devices for connecting to a TV, with which you can play through the xCloud service. It is estimated that they may come out in 2021.

It is noteworthy that Microsoft worked on a similar hardware solution back in 2021 – it was known under the code name Project Hobart – but eventually abandoned it. In addition, the corporation has been testing the idea of streaming to TV since it first showcased Halo 4 streaming from the cloud to PCs and Windows Phone smartphones back in 2021.

That being said, Microsoft has no plans to ditch the consoles and does not believe the Xbox Series X and S will be the last major systems it will release. Instead, the corporation sees a future in which there is a hybrid of on-premises computing and cloud services.
