Video: China MMO Justice Becomes First Game to Use Advanced NVIDIA RTXGI Tracing
Almost two years ago, NetEase’s Chinese MMO Justice was the first game to use both NVIDIA RTX (ray-traced shadows, ray-traced reflections, and ray-traced caustics) and DLSS at the same time. This year she was one of the first to receive updated RTX and DLSS 2 effects.0. Now, Justice has made its brainchild the world’s first game to support NVIDIA’s RTXGI.
RTXGI technology (free SDK recently updated to version 1.1) is a real-time global illumination technique based on hardware accelerated ray tracing that NVIDIA says can efficiently create lighting with virtually no limit on the number of ray reflections, unlike most previous GI implementations.
NVIDIA describes the technology as follows: “Using RTXGI real-time ray tracing global illumination, light literally bounces from surface to surface, illuminating the environment just like in the real world. Without ray tracing, developers must manually simulate lighting or pre-bake global illumination during game creation. And while the results can seem excellent if you put in enough time, effort and GPU power, they can’t match RTXGI, which dynamically adjusts lighting in real time as the time of day changes, as clouds obscure the light and clouds darken the skies, lightning strikes on short moments brightly illuminate everything around.
Even without changing ambient lighting and time of day, RTXGI delivers superb views and scenes, with lighting realistically reflected and diffused from surface to surface, with the specific properties of each material affecting how and where the light travels. “.
Owners of GeForce RTX 3000 series graphics cards based on the latest NVIDIA Ampere architecture get much better performance. For example, the RTX 3080 can handle roughly double the number of RTXGI samples compared to the RTX 2080 Super in the NVIDIA Attic Scene Unreal Engine 4 benchmark.
Latency is also significantly lower when using RTXGI in conjunction with Ampere graphics accelerators. RTX 3080 makes about three times more samples per frame compared to 2080 Super: up to 9.7 million versus 3.3 million. Check out this video from NVIDIA to see the difference between Justice’s updated RTXGI effects and none at all:
