It became known that the projects of the first three nanosatellites, created in Russian universities, were approved. These devices should become part of the space constellation, which is created by joint efforts of a consortium of universities and scientific organizations. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the press service of the Samara National Research University named after. FROM. P. Queen.

“This is a very important event for us. After this stage, after the public presentation of projects, we proceed directly to the stage of manufacturing nanosatellites. We set aside one year for the implementation of this stage, so that the satellites are fully ready by the end of 2021, and so that they can be launched into space in 2022, “said Igor Belokonov, head of the interuniversity department of space research at Samara University.

Design works submitted by various Russian universities were evaluated by well-known scientists and specialists, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Education. Ultimately, all three projects were approved. In the future, these nanosatellites are planned to be used for the study of the ionosphere, the development of the Arctic and Antarctic, as well as the identification of ships. How many vehicles will be included in the space group is still unknown.

The SamSat-ION scientific and educational nanosatellite, developed at Samara University, is planned to be used to conduct tomography of the upper ionosphere, study wave processes and study plasma. It will be launched into a solar synchronous orbit with an altitude of about 550 km. According to calculations, the service life of the device in such an orbit is 19 years.

The other two satellites were developed by the Astronomicon laboratory and the St. Petersburg Polytechnic University. They will use a single satellite platform. The apparatus of the Polytechnic University “Polytechnic-ION” will be equipped with a receiver for an automatic identification system for monitoring sea vessels. The apparatus of the “Astronomicon” laboratory, named “HeckStek”, will be equipped with equipment for testing the radiation resistance of various element base. All three spacecraft will study plasma along their flight path and carry out tomography of the ionosphere.
